The contacts and calendar actually use the MS Exchange option from Mail, Contacts and Setting in general settings. It provides the soft option for mail, but by Google's own admission, is not supported as of yet. So I decided to select just the calendar and give it a go. Sync occurred very quickly, but as I looked through my iPhone calendar I noticed a major discrepancy. All of the events were there, but they have no color coding and no distinction as to which Google calendar they've come from, be it personal, work, US Holidays, etc. Bogus! Here's how my native calendar looks using the jailbroken app, NemusSync.
I backtracked and pulled the google sync out of the exchange option, then tried to resync my calendar through NemusSync (the jailbroken app that I've used to date very happily). Had to uninstall, then reinstall that and completely resync all calendars, as Nemus wouldn't even function after I had configured the exchange option for GSB. Back to Nemus and very happy with it.
Summation: not very happy with Google's new features so far!!!
